In Santiago, 11-year-old Chilean singer Máximo León performed a cueca — Chile's traditional national dance and musical genre — in honor of Kazakhstan. The composition Kazajistán, pueblo valiente ("Kazakhstan, a valiant people") was presented ahead of Dimash Qudaibergen's first concert in Chile, according to infohub.kz.
The performance took place in front of La Moneda Palace, which houses the country's government. The project was prepared by Máximo León and Carmen Sandoval, co-director of the Chile–Kazakhstan Friendship Society.
The composition was presented as part of Fiestas Patrias, Chile's national holidays. Its authors dedicated it to Kazakhstan and to Dimash's upcoming performance.
The cueca holds a special place in Chilean culture. It is performed in pairs to music and singing, and the dance is considered one of the country's main symbols. According to Carmen Sandoval, the new composition became the first cueca entirely dedicated to another country.
"The cueca is danced, loved and respected. It conveys our history, poetry, traditions and the resilience of our people. Our cueca is our embrace to the entire people of Kazakhstan," she said.
The lyrics were written by Carmen Sandoval, and the music was composed by the Mundaca Antinao sisters. Latin Cover Chile and Coliseo Kids also took part in the project, with recording handled by RA Estudio.
Dimash Qudaibergen will perform in Chile for the first time on November 24. The concert, part of the DIMENSIONS tour, will take place at the Movistar Arena in Santiago.
