In Astana, a 19-year-old man has been detained on suspicion of a series of online frauds involving clothing sales via TikTok, reports infohub.kz.
According to investigators, he posted advertisements for clothing on TikTok, but buyers never received the paid items. After potential customers contacted him, the suspect would receive an advance payment, then stop communicating and fail to fulfill his obligations.
“During operational search activities, police identified the suspect,” the police statement said. He was detained in another region and brought to the capital.
“To date, nine episodes of illegal activity have been established,” the Astana Police Department added. A pre-trial investigation is underway.
The Astana police urged citizens to be cautious when shopping on social media and online platforms, to verify information about sellers, and not to transfer money to unverified individuals.
