A 20-year-old man suspected of distributing narcotic and psychotropic substances on an especially large scale has been detained in Ust-Kamenogorsk, reports infohub.kz.

According to the press service of the East Kazakhstan Regional Police Department, officers from the anti-drug crime unit stopped the illegal activities of the 20-year-old resident of another city.

It was established that the young man found a job advertisement on social media and agreed to the offer. "He became a packer: following the coordinator's instructions, he received large batches of prohibited substances, packaged them, and prepared them for hiding in caches. In June, the man arrived in Ust-Kamenogorsk, where he continued this activity. He was paid in cryptocurrency," the police department said.

During the operation, police identified the suspect. In his backpack, they found two bundles with a brown substance. At the apartment where he lived, officers found several more bundles with substances, zip-lock bags, duct tape, and electronic scales.

Expert examination showed that the seized substances contained α-PVP and mephedrone weighing over 510 grams in total, as well as hashish weighing over 520 grams. In total, more than one kilogram of narcotic and psychotropic substances was seized from illegal circulation.

The suspect has been detained and placed in a temporary detention facility. A criminal case has been initiated.
