A coalition of 25 US states has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration seeking to overturn new global tariffs, according to infohub.kz.
The Democrat-led lawsuit, filed in the Court of International Trade, challenges the legality of 10% and 12.5% tariffs on goods from 60 US trading partners. The plaintiffs demand the tariffs be declared unlawful, rescinded, and that duties already paid be refunded.
New York Attorney General Letitia James said: "After losing in the Supreme Court, the administration is again trying to illegally raise taxes on families and businesses with a new round of tariffs."
The lawsuit argues that the administration used Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974 to effectively reinstate tariffs previously rejected by courts, by conducting expedited investigations.
The White House has dismissed the allegations. Administration spokesperson Kush Desai said: "The United States is using its lawful authority to eliminate practices that harm American trade and workers."
This is at least the second legal challenge to the new tariffs. Earlier, a group of small business representatives filed a similar lawsuit.
