Frank Zemeski, a 95-year-old American, has been officially recognized as the oldest speedcuber in history, reports infohub.kz.
The record was set at the Two Buffalo Cube Days tournament in New York State, which took place nine days after the athlete's 95th birthday. At the competition, the retiree successfully solved 2x2x2 and 3x3x3 cubes, posting a time of 5 minutes 49 seconds on the classic puzzle.
Zemeski took up the Rubik's Cube back in 1980, six years after its invention. Recently, he joined a local speedcubing club at the Orchard Park Library, where mostly teenagers practice. Through these sessions, he learned new solving algorithms that helped him succeed at the official event.
The record holder emphasized that age should not be a barrier to a favorite hobby and promised to continue participating in tournaments as long as his health allows.
