Traffic on Abai Avenue to BAKAD in Almaty to open by year-end

Traffic on the extension of Abai Avenue to the Big Almaty Ring Road (BAKAD) is expected to be opened by the end of this year. Construction readiness of the facilities is about 50%, reports infohub.kz.

During a working tour, Almaty Mayor Darkhan Satybaldy set this task. He inspected the progress of radial roads — Abai and Ryskulov avenues, as well as Sain Street, which will connect the city with BAKAD.

Currently, construction readiness stands at approximately 50%. Work continues on bridges over the Aksai River, overpasses over BAKAD and railway lines. Land acquisition is also ongoing. On Abai Avenue, 71 out of 82 plots have been purchased; on Ryskulov Avenue, 172 out of 190; on Sain Street, this process has already been completed.

"Last year, we decided to use the city budget to complete the purchase of land plots in the region and build the roads to BAKAD ourselves. All projects have been handed over to us; adjustments are being made, but work continues in parallel," said Darkhan Satybaldy.

The mayor emphasized that funding for construction is already allocated and contractors have been selected. "Funding for construction is in place, contractors are ready. I set the task to ensure traffic to BAKAD along the extensions of Abai Avenue and Sain Street within this year," he stated.

According to the mayor, these projects will improve transport connectivity in the Almaty agglomeration and reduce pressure on entry highways. In the future, Almaty plans to link with BAKAD via six radial highways. In addition to Abai and Ryskulov avenues and Sain Street, work continues on the extensions of Tlendiyev, Akan Sery, and Severnoye Koltso streets.
