Almaty is gearing up to celebrate Abai Day with a series of literary, cultural and educational events, reports infohub.kz.
According to the city administration, residents and guests of the metropolis can enjoy concerts, poetry readings, exhibitions, lectures, creative meetings and thematic projects dedicated to the legacy of the great Kazakh poet and thinker.
On August 8, the main event will be the concert-performance "Abai alemi", which will take place from 18:00 to 22:00 on the square of the Alatau Traditional Art Theater. After the performance, a festive concert will follow. The audience will see Makpal Zhunusova, Zhanar Dugalova, 6ellucci, KeshYou, Askhat Targyn, IL Canto quartet, Talgat Kuzembayev, Erlan Bilal, Nurlybek Nagmetov, Serik Isakhan, Nurlan Berdibayev, Birzhan Demeuly, ISATAY, as well as artists of the Alatau Traditional Art Theater, the ALATAU ensemble and creative groups of the Medeu district.
At 16:00, an acoustic evening "Abai olenderi" will be held at the community center of Nauryzbai district.
On August 10 at 08:30, a flower-laying ceremony will take place at Abai Square at the monument to the poet, with the participation of representatives of the akimat, public figures and intellectuals. On the same day, libraries and cultural centers across the city will host expressive reading contests, literary and musical evenings, poetry meetings, round tables and educational lectures.
At 16:00, the installation "Zhalagaudagy Abai" will open on the embankment of the Esentai River, featuring aphorisms and excerpts from the poet's works. Also on August 10, an art gallery dedicated to the work of Abai Kunanbayev will open on the grounds of Schoolchildren's House No. 6.
