Air Quality to Deteriorate in Seven Kazakh Cities on August 22

On August 22, unfavorable meteorological conditions are expected in seven cities of Kazakhstan, reports infohub.kz.

According to Kazhydromet, unfavorable meteorological conditions (UMC) are forecast for Karaganda, Zhezkazgan, Balkhash, Temirtau, and Almaty. At night, air quality is also expected to worsen in Astana and Atyrau.

UMC occur when a combination of factors such as calm winds, light winds, fog, or temperature inversion are present. These conditions contribute to the accumulation of pollutants in the surface air layer.

In Astana, on August 22, partly cloudy skies without precipitation are expected. Nighttime temperatures will be +9…+11°C, daytime +24…+26°C. Winds will be from the south and southwest, 2-7 m/s at night, 5-10 m/s during the day.

In Almaty, partly cloudy skies are forecast, with light rain and thunderstorms during the day. Nighttime temperatures will be +18…+20°C, daytime +28…+30°C. Northeast winds will be 3-8 m/s, with gusts up to 11 m/s during the day.

In Atyrau, no precipitation is expected. Nighttime temperatures will be +18…+20°C, daytime temperatures will rise to +35…+37°C. Northwest winds will be 2-7 m/s at night, 7-12 m/s during the day.

In Zhezkazgan, partly cloudy skies without precipitation are forecast. Nighttime temperatures will be +15…+17°C, daytime +28…+30°C. Winds will be from the northeast, shifting to southwest, 3-8 m/s.

In Karaganda, mostly dry conditions are expected, with fog at night and in the morning. Temperatures will be +9…+11°C at night and +24…+26°C during the day. Winds will be from the southeast, shifting to southwest, 3-8 m/s.

In the Karaganda region, fog is also possible at night and in the morning in the west, north, and east. Temperatures will be +6…+11°C, up to +17°C in the south, daytime +23…+28°C, around +20°C in the east.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that storm warnings have been issued for all regions of Kazakhstan for August 22. Several regions are expected to see rain, thunderstorms, hail, fog, and stronger winds, while the south and west will remain hot with temperatures up to +38°C.
