Police in the Akmola Region suspect a 25-year-old man of taking out a loan in a relative's name, with the woman only learning of the 2 million tenge debt a year later when the bank began calling to remind her, the website infohub.kz reports.
According to NUR.KZ, citing the regional police department, the woman filed a complaint with police on October 2. She said she only learned about the 2 million tenge loan issued in her name in 2025 a year later, after the bank began calling with reminders about the debt. The woman herself had not taken out any loans.
During the investigation, police found that her 25-year-old nephew may have been involved. Last year, the young man asked his aunt for a phone with access to the banking app, ostensibly for his own use. Unsuspecting of any deception, the woman handed him the device.
Police established that the man made loan payments for several months but then stopped repaying the debt. As a result, the woman only learned of the debt after the bank called her.
A criminal case has been opened on fraud charges. The circumstances of the incident are being established.
