Police in the Akmola Region engaged in a chase after a stolen motorcycle, resulting in the arrest of a 21-year-old resident of Astana. This was reported by infohub.kz.
According to the Akmola Region Police Department, on September 13, a city resident filed a report on the special line 102 about the theft of a Zuumav motorcycle.
According to the complainant, at around 11:50, an unknown man near his home seized the vehicle and fled.
“Inspectors from the Operational Control Center immediately began processing the report. After reviewing surveillance camera footage, police determined the suspect's direction of travel. It turned out he was heading toward the capital. The information was promptly relayed to patrol police officers,” the police said.
It is reported that patrol officers soon spotted a motorcycle matching the description on the Astana–Petropavlovsk highway. At around 12:12, the vehicle was noticed at the 197th kilometer of the highway. After a pursuit, the motorcycle was stopped at the 170th kilometer of the road, and the suspect was detained.
As stated by Senior Inspector of the Service of the 2nd Platoon of the Patrol Police Battalion of the Akmola Region Police Department, Police Captain Yerbol Duysentay, officers tried to avoid creating a dangerous situation on the road and prevent a traffic accident.
“We tried to act as cautiously as possible to prevent an accident and not endanger other road users. Therefore, the arrest took place at a considerable distance from where the motorcycle was spotted,” the police captain noted.
During the investigation, it was established that the detainee is a 21-year-old resident of Astana.
“According to preliminary data, the young man came to look at the motorcycle because he wanted to buy it, but he did not have the funds for the purchase. After the owner allowed him to ride the motorcycle, the young man decided to take the vehicle and fled,” the police reported.
On this fact, police have launched a pre-trial investigation into the theft. Currently, necessary investigative actions are being carried out, based on the results of which a corresponding legal assessment will be given to the suspect's actions.
