Police in the Akmola Region have solved the theft of a safe containing money from a scrap metal collection point, but by the time the suspect was detained, the stolen funds had already been spent in full, the website infohub.kz reports.
According to the regional police department, the crime was committed on the night of September 6. Law enforcement received a report that a safe containing cash had been stolen from the grounds of a company engaged in scrap metal collection.
Police launched a pre-trial investigation into the incident and carried out a range of necessary operational and investigative measures.
The investigation established that on the eve of the incident, company employees had, as usual, placed the money in the safe, then locked the premises and left. The next day they discovered the safe was missing and immediately contacted the police.
As part of the investigation, officers reviewed footage from surveillance cameras installed near the scene, examined the area, collected traces and fingerprints, and interviewed company employees.
The measures carried out led to the suspect being identified. He turned out to be a man born in 1978. During investigative actions, he admitted his guilt.
According to preliminary data, at night the man happened to notice the closed business and decided to get inside through a window. Once inside, he stole the safe. He later pried it open with a crowbar and spent the stolen money on personal needs.
Police are currently checking the suspect for involvement in other similar crimes.
