In Aktau, the father of a young patient has given his account of an attack on a doctor at the regional children's hospital, saying he was afraid of losing his son, infohub.kz reports.
According to the man, his son fell ill on October 19, with severe stomach pain and a fever of 39 degrees Celsius. An ambulance took the boy to hospital with suspected appendicitis.
"In the admissions department we had to push hard to get our son examined and tested. The first test showed an elevated white blood cell count of around 21.5–22. Despite that, in the evening we were offered the option of going home. I refused and at around 23:00 insisted on a repeat test, which again showed a high white blood cell count of around 21. After that the child was kept in hospital under observation. In the morning another surgeon examined our son and sent him for surgery. It went successfully," the boy's father said.
On Saturday, October 31, his son's stomach began hurting again, so the father brought the boy back to the regional children's hospital. There he again encountered the same surgeon with whom he had already clashed during the previous visit.
The man says the doctor greeted him with a smirk and, as he perceived it, made clear he could refuse to examine the child. The man tried to restrain himself, but a conflict eventually broke out between them.
Earlier reports said a visitor at the admissions department of the regional children's hospital in Aktau lunged at a doctor and grabbed him by the neck. The hospital said the pediatric surgeon had carried out the necessary examinations of the child and calmly explained the results to his father. There were no grounds for hospitalization. The man then unexpectedly attacked the doctor.
Police have opened a criminal case.
