Heavy rain flooded streets in Aktau, with municipal crews working at full capacity to pump water off the roads, the website infohub.kz reports.

According to NUR.KZ, citing the city administration, the pumping work is being carried out on the instructions of Aktau Mayor Maksat Mukash. Prolonged rainfall left water pooled on the roadway, hampering traffic.

"Utility services and special equipment are working at full capacity at several locations across the city, pumping out rainwater that was hindering traffic. In particular, work was carried out at the intersection of microdistricts 17 and 18A, near the Hazar bazaar, between microdistricts 29 and 29A, 13 and 15, and 11 and 14," the administration said in a statement.

Around 20 pieces of special equipment and about 50 workers were deployed to deal with the aftermath of the downpour. The administration said the work was carried out at full capacity.

"The situation in the city is currently under the control of the responsible services. Work to pump out rainwater and restore the roads is continuing," the Aktau administration said.
