A resident of Aktau has been sentenced to six years in prison for stabbing a cafe patron in the groin with a kitchen knife, an attack triggered by a dispute over an appetizer taken without permission. As reported by infohub.kz, the Aktau City Court found the man guilty of intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm out of hooligan motives and handed down a six-year prison term.

According to the official Telegram channel of the courts of the Mangystau Region, the Aktau City Court heard a criminal case against a defendant charged under Article 106, Part 2, Item 7 of the Criminal Code — intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm out of hooligan motives.

The court established that in the early hours of July 4, 2026, the defendant was at a cafe in Aktau's 12th microdistrict, where he drank alcohol and, without permission, took an appetizer from the victim's table and poured out some of the liquor before leaving the establishment.

When the victim went outside to find out why he had behaved that way, the defendant, acting out of hooligan motives, struck him in the groin with a kitchen knife he was carrying, intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm.

The defendant partially admitted guilt, apologized to the victim and asked for a sentence not involving imprisonment. The victim testified that he had forgiven the defendant, had no claims against him and asked for a sentence not involving imprisonment. The defendant's guilt was proven by the testimony of the victim and witnesses, a forensic medical examination report, video footage and other case materials.

The sanction under Article 106, Part 2, Item 7 of the Criminal Code provides for six to ten years in prison, with or without confiscation of property.

In passing sentence, the court recognized the defendant's dependent minor child as a mitigating circumstance. The court found no aggravating circumstances.

The defendant was found guilty under Article 106, Part 2, Item 7 of the Criminal Code and sentenced to six years in prison, to be served in a medium-security correctional facility. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
