In Aktau, parents of fifth-grade students at School No. 20, located in the 28th microdistrict, have expressed dissatisfaction with the condition of the classroom provided to their children. According to infohub.kz, the classroom contains old desks and chairs: many tabletops have heavily worn edges, and their surfaces are covered with scratches and signs of years of use. The chairs also look far from new — their backs show numerous scuff marks, scratches, and writing. Some desks have battered and uneven edges.
According to the parents, part of the walls looks no better. Near the window, there is a long damaged section of finishing where plaster and paint are missing in places. There are also signs of repairs in other parts of the room.
Parents suspect that their homeroom teacher, a young educator, was given everything on a leftover basis. "The administration gave her the worst classroom and told her to take desks from the basement that she could find. And these desks are the best that were there. The books were also received in terrible condition. It's unclear how such things are accepted at the library at the end of the year?!" the parents said.
At the same time, they note that in elementary school their children studied under different conditions and do not remember the classroom being in such a state.
The Aktau city education department said that the administration of School No. 20 conducted an inspection after the complaint. The department confirmed that some pieces of furniture show signs of wear.
The school operates in a building constructed in 1989. It currently enrolls 2,414 students. The education department explains that due to the school's high enrollment, the available classrooms and material resources are used as efficiently as possible.
At the same time, the department said that the issue of the room's condition and furniture has already been taken up. The school purchased linoleum for the classroom, and necessary repair work is also planned. In addition, the furniture is promised to be checked further.
"Unusable tables and chairs will be replaced as much as possible," the education department said.
The school administration has been instructed to continue work to ensure comfortable and safe conditions for students and teachers.
