The specialized interdistrict criminal court of Aktobe Region has handed down its verdict in the case of the murder of a 17-year-old young man during a mass 'district versus district' brawl in Shalkar, reports infohub.kz.
Because the defendant was a minor at the time of the crime, he was sentenced to 9 years in a medium-security facility.
The convicted man must pay the victim's parents 15 million tenge each in moral damages, as well as more than 2 million tenge for material damage and legal fees.
In addition, the court issued a private ruling addressed to the Aktobe Region Police Department. It stated that police officers in Shalkar District failed to carry out crime prevention among minors, which led to these consequences.
The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
Recall that a mass brawl among young people occurred on the night of March 20 this year in Shalkar, resulting in the death of a 17-year-old teenager. It later emerged that the deceased had graduated from school a year earlier and was planning to join the army. The father of the deceased also made a public statement.
In September, a trial began in Aktobe of a student accused of this crime. The prosecutor requested 8 years in prison for him.
