A 37-year-old resident of Aktobe, Gulzhanat Kulmurziyna, says she lost several teeth and suffered nerve damage after treatment at a private dental clinic, and now cannot undergo in vitro fertilization (IVF). An inspection found violations at the clinic, according to infohub.kz.
According to the woman, she decided to get her teeth fixed before the IVF procedure. However, during the treatment and tooth extraction, the patient claims she suffered a chemical burn and was admitted to a multidisciplinary hospital.
Kulmurziyna said the consequences persist: her nerves are damaged, several teeth are missing, and her face is distorted. She now faces several surgeries.
After the patient complained, an inspection was conducted at the clinic. It found that the care was provided by a dentist with only a secondary medical education, although treatment at this level required a higher medical education.
"In this case, dental care was provided to the patient by a specialist with a professional education – a secondary medical education. The qualification is dentist. But according to the standard, at the secondary level, care must be provided by a specialist with a higher medical education," said Nurlygul Bisenova, head of the department of the regional office of the Committee for Medical and Pharmaceutical Control.
According to the TV channel, the dentist was fined, and the clinic was ordered to suspend him from work.
Kulmurziyna also filed a lawsuit. According to her, the defendants' representatives did not attend the reconciliation procedure and did not apologize.
"Today we had a reconciliation meeting. They didn't show up, no one wanted to come. They didn't even apologize. I was planning a pregnancy via IVF in the future. Now I won't be able to undergo IVF. I won't be able to have children," said Gulzhanat Kulmurziyna.
However, the report does not provide a medical conclusion confirming the impossibility of undergoing IVF or having children.
