Gulzhanat Kulmurziya, a resident of Aktobe, claims that after treatment at a private dental clinic she ended up in a hospital bed and may now lose the chance to become a mother. According to her, the 37-year-old woman was preparing for an in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedure and decided to have her teeth fixed beforehand, reports infohub.kz.
The patient said that during treatment and tooth extraction she suffered a chemical burn and was hospitalized in a multidisciplinary hospital. She said she lost several teeth, suffered nerve damage and may now lose the ability to become a mother. She is now preparing to undergo a series of operations.
An inspection revealed violations in the clinic's work. Nurlygul Bisenova, head of the department of the Committee for Medical and Pharmaceutical Control for the Aktobe Region, said: "In this case, dental care was provided to the patient by a specialist with a professional education – a secondary medical education. The qualification is a dentist. But according to the standard, at the secondary level, care must be provided by a specialist with a higher medical education."
The commission fined the dentist and ordered the clinic to suspend him from work.
The injured woman filed a lawsuit, but according to her, the defendants are not even trying to resolve the conflict. "Today we had a reconciliation meeting. They didn't show up for the reconciliation, no one wanted to come. They didn't even apologize. I was planning a pregnancy through IVF in the future. Now I won't be able to go for IVF. I won't be able to have children," said Gulzhanat Kulmurziya.
