A former police officer in the Aktobe Region has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the attempted murder of his own brother-in-law, according to Diapozon, as reported by infohub.kz.
According to the criminal case materials, the tragedy unfolded at a recreation center in Khromtau. The 32-year-old assistant district inspector was due to go on duty after a feast, so he had his service Makarov pistol with him.
Among those at the gathering was the husband of the police officer's sister. While drinking, the man admitted that he had beaten his wife and intended to continue doing so. Hearing this, the assistant district inspector drew his service weapon and began shooting at his brother-in-law at nearly point-blank range.
On the fourth shot, the cartridge case jammed in the pistol. The victim sustained wounds to the chest and abdomen and was hospitalized in the intensive care unit.
The wounded man survived, and the former police officer found himself in the dock on charges of attempted murder. The defendant himself claimed that the conflict arose because his brother-in-law insisted that he take leave from work and stay to relax with the group.
The court has delivered its verdict in this high-profile case. For attempted murder, the ex-police officer was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Recall that in late March of this year, information appeared online about a shooting in the Aktobe Region, with suspicions that a police officer had fired the shots. The 36-year-old victim was taken to the intensive care unit of the Khromtau District Hospital. Police opened a criminal case.
