In Aktobe, a man devised an unusual scheme to defraud drivers: at a pedestrian crossing, he pretended to be a victim of a traffic accident and then demanded money for alleged injuries, reports infohub.kz.
According to the regional police department, the man staged the scene at the intersection of Zhienbaev and Tashkentskaya streets. He created the appearance of being hit by a car, then approached drivers and convinced them to pay for "treatment."
According to the investigation, the man managed to deceive two drivers this way. One transferred 250,000 tenge to him via a mobile app, and the other gave 200,000. The total damage amounted to 450,000 tenge.
One of the drivers later decided to contact the police. During the check, the information was confirmed. The man was identified as a suspect.
"The necessary investigative actions are being carried out in the case to establish all the circumstances of the incident," the department commented.
Police reminded Kazakhstanis: if after an alleged accident a pedestrian demands money for supposedly sustained injuries, one should not resolve the matter on their own.
In such a situation, it is necessary to call the police and officially record the circumstances of the incident.
