The Akimat of Aktobe Region has announced the introduction of an innovative approach to road repairs: the installation of so-called 'floating' manhole covers in Aktobe, reports infohub.kz.
According to the regional akimat, this new technology for installing manhole covers is designed to increase the durability of road surfaces and make driving more comfortable for motorists.
Unlike the traditional method, where a manhole is mounted on a reinforced concrete slab before asphalt is laid, the new technology involves installing a special adjustable support after the asphalt concrete pavement has been laid. This allows the manhole to be fixed exactly at the level of the road surface, becoming an integral part of the pavement structure.
Specialists say that this system can withstand significantly higher traffic loads. This will help avoid the subsidence of asphalt around manholes, which often leads to unevenness and damage to vehicle suspensions.
It is noted that the height of the manhole can be adjusted without extensive road works if necessary. The expected service life of the new structure is 10 to 15 years. The technology is already widely used in Russia and several other countries.
In Aktobe, it is planned to be tested for the first time on one of the busiest city streets. If the new system proves effective under heavy traffic conditions, it will be used in the repair of other city roads, the akimat added.
