A 54-year-old man who survived a fire at a gas filling station in Aktobe is set to undergo surgery to transplant his own skin. Preparations for the procedure are already underway, reports infohub.kz.
The patient has been receiving treatment at Aktobe City Multidisciplinary Hospital No. 1 for about a month. He suffered burns covering nearly 50% of his body when his car caught fire. Doctors describe his condition as stable.
"The patient's condition is stable, hemodynamic parameters are normal. He is receiving necessary treatment in a specialized department. Burn wounds on his face and limbs are gradually healing. According to the treatment plan, autodermoplasty is scheduled for burn wounds on the chest area," the regional health department's press service said.
Autodermoplasty is a procedure that uses the patient's own skin to cover extensive burn wounds, eliminating the need for donor material.
The tragedy occurred on June 19 at a gas filling station in Aktobe. A parked car caught fire, killing three people: the driver's wife and his two minor children. The gas station owner has been taken into custody. A criminal case has been opened on charges of violating safety rules at explosive facilities.
