A two-year-old girl named Khanshayim from Kazakhstan's Aktobe Region requires complex reconstructive surgery in the United States: she has been diagnosed with microtia and atresia of the external auditory canal — one ear did not form, and the ear canal is absent, infohub.kz reports.
The girl's mother, Aidyn Kuanysheva, spoke about her daughter's diagnosis. According to her, the pregnancy proceeded without serious complications, examinations revealed no abnormalities, and nothing foreshadowed the child's congenital condition. "That is why our daughter's diagnosis was a great shock for us. Immediately after her birth, doctors informed us that our baby had a congenital developmental anomaly — microtia and atresia of the external auditory canal. One ear did not fully form, and the ear canal is absent. In the first days, it was very hard for us to accept this diagnosis. We worried, cried, searched for any information, consulted various specialists, hoping that a solution existed. Over time, we realized that the most important thing is not to give up and to do everything possible for our daughter's future," NUR.KZ quotes her as saying.
The family began studying global practices for treating microtia and atresia: the parents communicated with families of children with the same diagnosis, reviewed the results of surgeries in different countries, and consulted specialists. "As a result, we concluded that one of the best medical centers in the world is the California Ear Institute in the US. This clinic has many years of experience treating children with similar diagnoses, and its specialists perform complex reconstructive surgeries with high success rates. That is why we decided to turn specifically to them," Aidyn Kuanysheva noted.
The cost of treatment and surgery proved unaffordable for the family. Despite both spouses working, their income is insufficient to raise the necessary sum on their own. Therefore, the parents were forced to open a charitable fundraiser and appeal for help to people, organizations, foundations, and companies.
"I am a nurse by profession. My husband works as a state nature protection inspector. We always tried to provide for our family ourselves, worked honestly, and never thought that one day we would have to ask for help from caring people. Our greatest dream is to give our daughter the opportunity to hear fully, live without insecurities, and feel like a happy child. We sincerely believe that with the help of kind people, we will be able to raise the necessary sum and give Khanshayim a healthy future. We wholeheartedly thank everyone for their attention to our story, understanding, and any support provided," the girl's mother concluded.
