A national scientific and practical conference with international participation, "Current Issues in Modern Surgery," was held in Aktobe. It brought together leading surgeons, scientists, and representatives of Kazakhstan's medical community, as well as specialists from Belarus, Turkey, South Korea, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan, according to infohub.kz.
Welcoming the participants, Akim of Aktobe Region Askhat Shakharov noted that the development of surgery requires not only modern technologies and equipment but also the training of qualified specialists.
"This conference is not just a platform for exchanging experience but an important professional dialogue on the current state of surgery and its future development. By order of the Head of State, Qasym-Jomart Toqaev, special attention is paid to the development of the healthcare system, and over the past 3 years, 20.3 billion tenge has been allocated to the sector in Aktobe Region, 40 medical facilities have been built, and another 40 buildings have undergone major repairs. The development of surgical services, the introduction of modern technologies, the advanced training of specialists, and ensuring the quality of medical care are of particular importance for the region. Every year, surgical care is provided to approximately 50,000 patients in the region's hospitals, and more than 12,000 operations are performed. The Marat Ospanov West Kazakhstan Medical University plays an important role in training medical personnel and developing science, and international cooperation allows our doctors to adopt advanced foreign experience. I am confident that the professional experience of leading surgeons from Kazakhstan and foreign specialists gathered today in Aktobe will give new impetus to the further development of the region's surgical services," said Askhat Shakharov.
As part of the conference, an award ceremony was held for specialists who have made significant contributions to the development of medicine and surgery. The badge "For Contribution to the Development of Aktobe Region" was awarded to Professor Mehmet Haberal of Baskent University (Turkey), academicians and professors Zhaksylyk Doskaliev and Bolatbek Baimakhanov, Professor Salim Berkimbaev, and Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Kairat Sabyr.
Another 10 specialists from Kazakhstan and abroad received certificates of honor from the Akim of Aktobe Region. Among them are well-known surgeons and scientists from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Astana, Almaty, Semey, Kyzylorda, and Taraz. The awards were presented for contributions to the development of surgical services, medical science, international cooperation, and scientific and practical ties.
The main program of the conference continued with plenary sessions. Specialists from various fields of medicine—surgery, transplantology, oncology, vascular and cardiac surgery—gathered in one place. They exchanged professional experience, presented modern achievements and scientific developments, and discussed prospects for the development of surgical services and the introduction of new approaches into medical practice.
Professor Kwang-Woong Lee of Seoul National University, who previously worked with Kazakh specialists in transplantology, also addressed the participants online. In his address, he emphasized the importance of international interaction and the exchange of experience between doctors.
Following the conference, the participants outlined directions for further work related to improving surgical care, developing professional competencies, and introducing modern medical technologies. Holding such meetings helps strengthen professional ties and further develop the region's surgical services.
