A well-known lawyer in Aktobe has been sentenced to four years in prison for attempted fraud and incitement to bribery, infohub.kz reports.
According to NUR.KZ, citing the publication Diapazon, the criminal case against the lawyer, identified in the materials as G.R., was heard in the Aktobe court.
According to the prosecution, a convict in another case filed a motion to replace the unserved part of his sentence with a milder form of punishment. The lawyer learned of this and told the convict that he had connections in the court and the prosecutor's office and could resolve the matter, but that it would require 5 million tenge.
The lawyer received the money and was subsequently detained. As the publication emphasized, he had no actual agreement with the judge or prosecutor, and he intended to keep the millions for himself.
In court, the lawyer admitted guilt to the charge of attempted fraud and asked not to be deprived of liberty. The court found him guilty on both counts and sentenced him to 4 years in prison with a lifetime ban on holding positions in public service.
