A 76-year-old pensioner in Aktobe lost almost 15 million tenge after trusting phone scammers who posed as employees of the Public Service Center (CZN) and the National Security Committee (KNB), the website infohub.kz reports.

According to the press service of the Aktobe Region Police Department, an unknown man called the elderly man via WhatsApp, introducing himself as a CZN employee. He claimed that scammers had allegedly gained access to the pensioner's personal data and, on that pretext, convinced him to take steps to protect his money.

Soon afterward, the victim received calls from other unknown individuals who introduced themselves as KNB officers. They persistently urged him to transfer his money to a so-called "safe account."

Believing the callers, the pensioner withdrew 14 million 800 thousand tenge from his deposit and transferred it to an account provided by the scammers.

Investigative measures are underway to establish all the circumstances of the incident and identify those involved in the crime.

The Aktobe Region Police Department strongly urges citizens to talk with their elderly relatives and warn them about such fraud schemes.
