Police in Kazakhstan's Aktobe Region, backed by special forces, searched a private home and shut down an illegal narcotic plant-growing operation, the website infohub.kz reports.
According to the regional police department's press service, officers from the Temir district uncovered the illegal cultivation of narcotic-containing plants.
"During the search of a private home in the village of Shubarshi, officers found specially prepared plots of land where narcotic-containing plants were being grown. A total of six green plants were found. In addition, plant material, seeds, and the items and packaging used to store the substance were found in various rooms of the house and in the bathhouse. The total weight of the seized plant material was about 11 kilograms. Everything seized has been sent for appropriate examination," the Aktobe Region police department said.
The pre-trial investigation established that the man had dug special holes in the ground in his yard back in the spring of this year and planted seeds of a narcotic-containing plant there. He later watered and cultivated the plants, explaining that he did so for personal use.
During questioning, the man admitted his guilt. A criminal case has been opened over the incident under Part 1 of Article 300 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan.
The necessary investigative measures are currently being carried out in the criminal case.
