In the Rauan-2 residential area on the outskirts of Aktobe, more than a thousand homes still lack centralized water supply. The water pipeline is 90% complete, but 796 million tenge is needed to finish the project, reports infohub.kz.
According to KTK TV channel, residents of the area have been bringing water from the city themselves for over ten years. One family can use up to 200 liters per day. With the onset of rains, people fear being unable to travel for water due to road conditions.
"We need to wash dishes, do laundry, bathe ourselves, but there's no water. We've been bringing it from the city all this time. Soon the rains will start, the roads will be washed out, and then we won't even be able to go for water," said Zada Mizambayeva, a resident of the area.
Construction of the water pipeline began last spring. Residents were promised it would be launched by the end of summer, but by mid-October, water had still not appeared in the homes.
"The line was laid, connections were made to each house. For example, everything is ready at my place, but there's still no water in the taps," said Serik Mektepov, a resident of the area.
The akimat confirmed that the main and intra-block networks have been laid, a reservoir built, and equipment installed. A lack of funding is preventing the completion of work and the launch of the system.
"This project is financed from the regional budget, the total cost of the project is 2.3 billion tenge. To complete it, we need 796 million tenge from the regional budget," said Aksunkar Kuldunbayev, head of the construction department sector at the Aktobe city akimat.
The city akimat has sent a request for the missing amount from the regional budget but has not yet received a response. The timeline for completing the work and launching the water supply has not been determined.
