A trial has begun in Aktobe for a 16-year-old teenager accused of attacking his mother and grandmother with a knife last December. The woman died from her injuries, according to the website infohub.kz.
As previously reported, in early December, the teenager became a suspect in the murder of his mother and the assault on his grandmother. Police said they received a report of a grave crime in an apartment. Upon arrival, officers found the body of a woman with signs of violent death. An elderly woman with knife wounds was taken from the same apartment to the hospital. The minor suspect confessed to the crime.
Neighbors were shocked by the incident, as the family was considered well-off and complete, raising three children. The arrested teenager is the eldest son, with a younger brother. The older boys attended a private school, while the five-year-old youngest was in preschool. The parents worked, and the children were well-mannered and always helped their grandmother.
Today, the trial began in Aktobe, and details of that fateful day were revealed. The 16-year-old was expected to be in the defendant's dock, but according to a TV channel, he is currently in a psychiatric hospital. An examination diagnosed him with paranoid schizophrenia. Experts concluded that at the time of the crime, he was not aware of his actions.
The teenager's father and grandmother attended the court session. Both asked not to be filmed and declined to comment. The state prosecutor read out the details of the bloody drama: "The teenager was in the kitchen when his mother reprimanded him about his academic performance. He then opened a cabinet above the sink, saw a knife with a black handle, took it, and pursued the woman into another room. There, he inflicted several stab wounds on various parts of her body. The mother died at the scene from her injuries."
