In the Abai region, the management of a resort on the shores of Lake Alakol has returned a prepayment of 100,000 tenge to a family, reports infohub.kz.
According to the official website of the Committee for Consumer Protection of the Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan, in early August 2026, the family planned a trip to a resort on the shores of Lake Alakol in the Makanshi district of the Abai region. However, they had to cancel their vacation due to the health condition of one family member.
The consumers had paid a prepayment of 100,000 tenge in advance to book a room at the resort. But due to the circumstances, they were unable to use the service and notified the provider of the cancellation.
Despite this, the resort management refused to refund the money, citing potential losses and lost profits.
According to the Law of Kazakhstan "On Consumer Protection," conditions that infringe consumer rights include granting the seller (manufacturer, provider) the right not to refund the paid amount for goods (work, services) not provided in case of contract termination.
To protect consumer rights, the Department of Trade and Consumer Protection for the Abai region assisted in preparing a pre-trial claim and explained the procedure for protecting rights in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
As a result of the claim review, the resort management voluntarily satisfied the consumers' demands and returned the prepayment in full.
