In the city of Alatau, Almaty Region, a victim and a witness have become subjects of a criminal case for knowingly giving false testimony, reports infohub.kz.
According to the official Telegram channel of the courts of Almaty Region, the court of Alatau issued a special ruling against the victim and the witness for knowingly false testimony.
Specifically, the court considered a criminal case against a defendant accused of intentionally causing severe harm to health (Part 1 of Article 106 of the Criminal Code). The court sentenced him to 3 years and 6 months of imprisonment, to be served in a medium-security facility.
"During the trial, the court established that the victim and the witness, aiming to shield the defendant from responsibility, changed their testimony given earlier during the pre-trial investigation," the court reported.
As a result of the trial, the court issued a special ruling regarding the presence of signs of a criminal offense under Article 420 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan in the actions of the victim and the witness. On June 19, 2026, the police department of Alatau opened a criminal case against the victim and the witness under Part 2 of Article 420 (Knowingly false testimony). The special ruling has entered into legal force.
