Kazakhstan's top-ranked player, Alexander Bublik, who slipped out of the Top 20 of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings earlier this week, will play two matches for Team World at the 2026 Laver Cup tomorrow, infohub.kz reports.
Bublik received a personal invitation from Team World captain Andre Agassi for the London clash against Team Europe. Alexander will take the court twice tomorrow. In singles, he will face Rafael Jodar, while in doubles (partnering Taylor Fritz) he will go up against Carlos Alcaraz and Jakub Mensik.
Besides Bublik's two matches, Casper Ruud will take on Francesco Cerundolo and Mensik will face Brandon Nakashima on the opening day of the tournament.
The Laver Cup, named after the famous Australian tennis player Rod Laver (now 88), is being held for the ninth time. It features six European players and the same number of players representing the rest of the world. Three are selected automatically based on the ATP rankings, while the captain invites the other three.
Twelve matches (9 singles and 3 doubles) are played over three days. A win in each match on the first day earns the team 1 point. Each victory on the second day is worth 2 points. On the third day, a win is worth three points.
The team that reaches 13 points first wins. If the score is 12-12, an additional doubles match decides the winner.
All matches are played over three sets, with the third set contested as a 10-point tie-break.
No ATP ranking points are awarded for the tournament, which has every right to be called an exhibition event. All players do, however, receive personal payments. In addition, each member of the winning team adds $250,000 to his bank account.
Since its inception, the tournament has been held in Prague (2017), Chicago (2018), Geneva (2019), Boston (2021), London (2022), Vancouver (2023), Berlin (2024) and San Francisco (2025). Team Europe has five wins so far, while Team World has won three times.
