Kazakhstan's top men's singles player Alexander Bublik has ended his run at the US Open, reports infohub.kz.
In the third-round match, the world No. 16 faced American Tommy Paul, who is ranked 21st in the ATP standings.
The match lasted the full five sets, with the third set decided by a tiebreak. Paul won 6:4, 3:6, 6:7 (4:7), 6:1, 6:3.
The players spent 3 hours and 13 minutes on court. During that time, Bublik fired 16 aces, committed six double faults, and converted two of seven break points.
In the fourth round, Paul will face the winner of the match between China's Wu Yibing and Spain's Carlos Alcaraz. No Kazakhstani players remain in the men's singles draw.
Bublik is also entered in the doubles at the US Open, partnering China's Shang Juncheng. Their first-round opponents are Argentina's Sebastián Báez and Hungary's Fábián Marozsán.
The US Open is the last Grand Slam of the season and is played on hard courts in New York.
