Former Kazakhstan national team coach Ali Aliyev has ended his tenure at the capital's Zhenis club. The decision was made after a meeting between the specialist and the club's management, reports infohub.kz.
According to the source, the parties discussed the team's recent results and agreed to part ways following the talks. Aliyev himself confirmed his departure.
"Zhenis is a very ambitious club. Lately, there has been some bad luck. I understand everyone here: everyone wants results, everyone wants peace and balance. I understand that all responsibility lies with me: selection, team building, the entire club structure, and above all, results," Aliyev said.
The 45-year-old specialist took charge of Zhenis in December 2025, signing a one-year contract with the club. Prior to that, Aliyev worked with the Kazakhstan national team, leading them in seven matches, with two wins and five losses.
In the current KPL season under Aliyev, the capital team played 20 matches, winning five, drawing eight, and losing seven. Zhenis has 23 points and sits in eighth place in the standings after the 20th round.
Aliyev's last match in the championship was a home game against Yelimay on August 2, which ended 0-0. Before that, Zhenis lost to Kaspy 2-3.
Meanwhile, Zhenis continues to compete for the Kazakhstan Cup. Under Aliyev, the capital club successively defeated Khromtau 4-1, Okzhetpes 3-2, and Kyzylzhar 2-0, reaching the tournament's semifinals. In the first match for a spot in the final, Zhenis lost to Kaisar 1-3.
According to AmanVibe, Bosnian specialist Vladimir Sliskovic is expected to become the new head coach of Zhenis. The club has not officially announced his appointment yet.
Thus, Aliyev's departure marks the eighth coaching change in the 2026 KPL. In two clubs, Aktobe and Irtysh, coaches have been replaced twice. All coaching changes in Kazakhstan Premier League teams as of August 4 are in the table below.
