Prosecutors in the Ulytau region have identified dozens of alimony debtors who, despite owing millions to their own children, continued to actively use betting platforms. The inspection revealed that some regularly funded their gaming accounts, placed bets, and collected winnings, yet failed to transfer funds for child support. Pre-trial investigations have been launched into the cases, reports infohub.kz.

“During the latest inspection, supervisory officials identified 22 debtors who, despite having alimony arrears, continued to spend significant amounts on bets at bookmakers,” the regional prosecutor’s office said.

The supervisory body determined that these individuals neglected their parental duties and owed money to their children, while regularly topping up gaming accounts, participating in bets, and receiving cash winnings.

One particularly illustrative case involves a debtor whose alimony arrears reached 3.9 million tenge. According to the investigation, the man had been registered with a bookmaker since 2020. During that time, he funded his gaming account with a total of 4.6 million tenge. Additionally, he received winnings of 3.1 million tenge over the period. Meanwhile, he sent no money for his children’s support.

Pre-trial investigations have been initiated for all identified cases under Article 139 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which imposes liability for evading payment of child support.

The Ulytau region prosecutor’s office emphasized that the obligation of parents to support their children is a direct legal requirement and cannot be ignored, regardless of personal circumstances. The agency also reminded that attempts to hide real income, evade alimony obligations, or spend money to the detriment of children’s interests may lead to legal liability.

The prosecutor’s office urges citizens to conscientiously fulfill parental duties, as protecting children’s rights and interests remains a priority for the supervisory authorities.
