A court in Almaty has sentenced a local resident after several grams of a psychotropic substance were found at his home, infohub.kz reports.
The criminal case concerned a citizen identified in the materials as V., who was accused of illegally acquiring and possessing, without intent to distribute, an analogue of a psychotropic substance in especially large quantities.
According to the investigation, a sanctioned search of the residential building where V. lives uncovered a psychotropic substance — an analogue of methcathinone (3-CMC). The total weight of the find was 2.44 grams, which constitutes an especially large amount.
A medical examination established that V. had used cannabinoids. It also emerged that he had previously been held administratively liable for non-medical use of cannabinoids, for which he was given an administrative penalty of 10 days' arrest.
The sanction under the article provides for imprisonment of three to seven years. V. was found guilty and sentenced to 6 years in prison. However, under an amnesty, the punishment was reduced by one third — ultimately, the man will spend 4 years behind bars.
