Residents of Almaty have expressed bewilderment over repeated road works on Abai Avenue, where asphalt was recently replaced. The city's akimat has responded to citizens' questions, reports infohub.kz.
A Kazakhstani user under the nickname Zhaqsybala posted on the social network Threads, questioning the logic of street repairs. He noted that on the section from the Magnum supermarket in the Zhetysu microdistrict to Momyshuly Street in the western direction, asphalt was recently replaced, and now the top layer is being removed again on the stretch from Sain to Momyshuly, including the new section. "Why repair a piece when there are plans to replace asphalt on the whole street?" the post's author complained, adding that the work is being carried out in the last week before the start of the school year.
A NUR.KZ correspondent sent a request to the press service of the Almaty akimat. The response states that this year, medium repairs will cover the section of Abai Avenue from Sain Street to B. Momyshuly Street. This section was included in the repair list based on a survey that revealed rutting, a network of cracks, and significant wear of the road surface. The previous repair on this section was carried out in 2019. Currently, preparatory work is underway, which is planned to be completed by September 1 of this year.
