A car in Almaty fell into a trench left after water pipeline reconstruction work. According to eyewitnesses, new asphalt had recently been laid at the site, reports infohub.kz.

A video of the incident was posted on the social network Threads. Comments on the clip specify that the incident occurred in Microdistrict No. 1 of the Auezov district.

"New asphalt was just laid recently. Apparently, the ground was washed out under the new asphalt, and the car fell through the new asphalt," the video description says.

The footage shows the vehicle indeed partially stuck in the trench.

Almaty Su commented on the situation, explaining that contractor ASM Constraction LLP is carrying out water pipeline reconstruction work at the address.

"The existing networks were commissioned in the 1960s-1970s and have a high level of wear. The reconstruction aims to replace worn-out sections and ensure reliable and uninterrupted water supply. In connection with the incident, the car was extracted from the trench. Representatives of the contractor contacted the applicant, and the parties reached an agreement on compensation for material damage," Almaty Su said.

In addition, work is currently underway to restore the trench and bring the area into proper condition. All identified issues will be eliminated as soon as possible, the akimat promised.

"The situation is under control, and the contractor has been instructed to take necessary measures to prevent such cases in the future," the company concluded.
