In Almaty, the renovation of the Bolshaya Almatinka River embankment continues, and part of it will be temporarily closed to pedestrians. Restrictions are being introduced in stages as work progresses, reports infohub.kz.
According to Almaty Joly, the eastern side of the section from settling tank No. 1 (the dam) to Al-Farabi Avenue will be closed first. This is where a small swimming pond and most sports grounds are located. Then restrictions will gradually extend to the remaining sections of the embankment up to Abai Avenue.
During the repair, it is planned to restore the irrigation system, update sidewalks, partially replace curbs, replant shrubs and lawn, and carry out sanitary pruning of trees.
"We ask residents and guests of the city to take into account temporary restrictions, comply with the requirements of temporary road signs, and plan their routes in advance," the Almaty Joly statement said.
Passage along the eastern side from settling tank No. 1 (the dam) to Al-Farabi Avenue will be restricted for 20 days.
Recall that the reconstruction of the Bolshaya Almatinka embankment has been carried out by Pavlodar River Port JSC since October 2024. During this time, the project has been repeatedly criticized by citizens and even the city administration. Initially, according to the project passport, the reconstruction was planned to be completed by December 2025, but later the deadline was postponed to the end of May 2026. The new restrictions indicate that the work is not yet complete.
