Footage of damaged steps on the newly renovated embankment of the Bolshaya Almatinka River in Almaty, where a multi-billion reconstruction was recently completed, has appeared on social media. The city's Department of Ecology and Environment cited vandalism as the cause, according to infohub.kz.
The video, filmed on the embankment, was published on the Telegram channel egovpress. The footage shows that the steps of the new staircase are already partially destroyed.
A NUR.KZ correspondent requested comment from the press service of the Almaty Akimat, which provided a response from the city's Department of Ecology and Environment.
"On the improvement section along the bed of the Ulken Almaty River (Bolshaya Almatinka), facts of damage to individual landscaping elements have been identified as a result of vandalism by persons using personal mobility devices (scooters). Currently, the contractor is carrying out work to eliminate the identified defects and restore the damaged elements at its own expense within the framework of warranty obligations," the department said.
It is noted that the contract terms provide for a warranty period of 3 years. During this period, defects covered by warranty obligations must be eliminated by the contractor.
The department also provided photographs of the steps where the defects have already been fixed.
