In the first half of 2026, over 200 cases of breast cancer were detected among women in Almaty through preventive screenings. In total, more than 250 cancer cases were identified during this period, according to data presented at a meeting of the city's Public Health Department, as reported by infohub.kz.
"Over the first six months of the year, screening in Almaty detected more than 200 cases of breast cancer and 58 cases of colorectal cancer," the statement said. All patients have been registered for follow-up observation.
More than 108,000 residents underwent colorectal cancer screening. The screenings identified 803 cases of various pathologies, including 745 benign and 58 malignant tumors of the colon and rectum.
Following the meeting, medical organizations were instructed to conduct a second round of examinations for patients with positive screening results. This should be completed within 3–5 working days using a "green corridor" principle.
Plans also include weekly monitoring of medical organizations with zero detection rates for cancer and monthly analysis of primary healthcare facilities.
Additionally, special attention will be paid to improving the quality of screenings. Private clinics will undergo external audits, and separate screening hours will be arranged for working residents in the evenings and on Saturdays.
Earlier reports indicated that Kazakhstan has implemented a "green corridor" system allowing patients with suspected cancer to undergo examinations out of turn.
