More than 50,000 Almaty residents took part in a citywide cleanup dedicated to World Cleanup Day and City Day. The environmental events covered all districts of the metropolis, the city akimat reported, according to infohub.kz.
Residents tidied up parks, squares, courtyards, public spaces and recreation areas. Students, volunteers, representatives of public organizations, and employees of utility services, enterprises and institutions joined the campaign. In addition to cleaning, participants engaged in landscaping: more than 1,000 saplings were planted across the city during the cleanup.
One of the main venues was the Ayusai visitor center. More than a thousand people gathered there — residents, young people, volunteers and city service workers. Almaty Akim Darhan Satybaldy joined them in planting trees.
On the territory of Ayusai, 100 coniferous trees were planted — 50 pines and 50 firs. Work at this site proceeded simultaneously with cleaning and landscaping in other parts of the city.
The cleanup was held as part of the national program Taza Qazaqstan, initiated by President Qasym-Jomart Toqaev. The akimat noted that the program aims to foster respect for the environment and a culture of cleanliness.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that events for World Cleanup Day are planned in all regions of Kazakhstan. In Astana, they are part of an environmental month that will last until October 10, while in Turkistan Region, cleanup will be combined with tree planting.
