Almaty has temporarily closed Astana Square and a section of Kazybek Bi Street ahead of City Day celebrations, with traffic restrictions in effect from 3:00 p.m. on September 17 to 3:00 a.m. on September 21, according to infohub.kz.
As reported by Kursiv LifeStyle, preparations for festive events are already underway at Astana Square in front of the Kazakh-British Technical University. A stage, equipment, and structures for concerts on September 19 and 20 are being installed.
The university's windows facing the square have been covered with cardboard. They will likely be used to project images during the program.
According to the akimat, sections of Tole Bi and Kazybek Bi streets from Abylai Khan Avenue to Nazarbayev Avenue will be closed to traffic from 3:00 p.m. on September 17 to 3:00 a.m. on September 21.
Due to the restrictions, the routes of ten bus lines will temporarily change. These include: No. 16, 37, 48, 126, 201, 205, 206, 209, 210, and 224.
Buses No. 37, 48, 201, 206, 209, 210, and 224 will travel eastbound via Abylai Khan Avenue, Kabanbai Batyr Street, and Nazarbayev Avenue. Westbound, they will go via Nazarbayev Avenue, Bogenbai Batyr Street, and Abylai Khan Avenue.
Routes No. 16, 126, and 205 will bypass the closed section via Gogol, Kaldayakov, Zheltoksan, Nauryzbai Batyr streets, and adjacent highways.
Recall that Almaty City Day is celebrated on September 20 this year.
