Ophthalmologists at the Central City Clinical Hospital of Almaty have performed a complex transplant of a donor cornea on a 33-year-old Kazakhstani man suffering from a severe form of stage IV keratoconus. The operation halted his vision loss and saved his eye, infohub.kz reports.
According to the doctors, the disease was progressing rapidly, causing the patient's vision to deteriorate significantly. This led to the need for a corneal transplant.
The highly complex operation was performed by Gulzat Abdraimova, head of the hospital's ophthalmology department. As a result, the eye was saved.
Five months later, the man came for a routine check-up, which showed good postoperative recovery. After the examination, the Kazakhstani patient thanked the doctor and the entire medical team for the quality care provided.
Abdraimova, in turn, noted that for doctors, every operation represents a person's fate. Helping young people preserve their vision is very important, as it allows a person to live, study, and work fully.
Corneal transplantation is one of the most complex eye surgeries. It can only be performed by experienced surgeons using advanced equipment. After the procedure, the patient requires long and careful monitoring to ensure the eye heals successfully.
