A man who attacked a woman at a bus stop in Almaty in April of this year has been sentenced to one year in prison, infohub.kz reports.
According to case materials published in the court's online office, the defendant, identified as T., struck the victim multiple times on the head, face, and body.
"On April 23, 2026, at around 06:10, while at a bus stop located on Sanatornaya Street in the Kargaly district, T., acting out of hooligan motives, took advantage of the fact that G. did not expect an attack and could not actively resist, and deliberately struck her 5-6 times with the fists of both hands in the area of the head and face. He also delivered 2-3 kicks to her torso and head, thereby causing her minor bodily harm out of hooligan motives," the descriptive part of the verdict states.
During the trial, the defendant fully admitted his guilt and repented. The court found him guilty and sentenced him to one year in prison. The convicted man will serve his sentence in a maximum-security penal institution.
In addition, the court granted the victim's civil claim. As a result, the convicted man is obliged to pay her more than 1.5 million tenge in compensation for material and moral damage, as well as legal representation costs.
Recall that on April 23, it became known that a man had attacked a 68-year-old woman at one of Almaty's bus stops. He struck her multiple times. Police said the crime was solved promptly. The suspect was detained and placed in a temporary detention facility.
It was also reported that the woman received medical assistance and underwent a CT scan of the brain. The examination found no signs of acute cerebrovascular accident or brain contusion.
Furthermore, it became known that the attacker had a prior criminal record: he had inflicted a knife wound on one of the men who came to his home and caused grievous bodily harm to another. The court concluded that T. acted in self-defense and sentenced him to 2 years in prison.
