In Almaty, a 40-year-old man sustained severe injuries during construction work at his home. Doctors at City Clinical Hospital No. 7 performed complex multi-stage treatment, including the implantation of a penile prosthesis, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Almaty Public Health Department, the patient was admitted with a pelvic fracture and complete avulsion of the urethra from the bladder. Such injuries are considered among the most severe in urology and traumatology and can be fatal. Even with a favorable outcome, they often cause serious urinary disorders, severe disability, and loss of important bodily functions.
Treatment proceeded in several stages. In the first stage, doctors performed repositioning of the pelvic bones and placed a cystostomy to divert urine past the damaged area. Then, a complex reconstructive operation was performed to restore the integrity of the urinary tract: the urethra was connected to the bladder, allowing natural urination to resume.
Due to the severe trauma, the patient also lost erectile function. To restore quality of life, specialists performed penile implantation, placing a penile prosthesis.
Thanks to staged treatment and the coordinated work of a multidisciplinary team of doctors, the patient fully recovered, returned to normal life and social activity. Subsequently, his previously established disability was lifted.
Director of City Clinical Hospital No. 7, PhD Nurdos Kadyrbekov, noted that this clinical case demonstrates the capabilities of modern urology and reconstructive surgery. “Such injuries are considered among the most severe and rare in clinical practice. Thanks to the professionalism of our specialists and the use of modern technologies, we managed not only to save the patient but also to restore lost functions, returning him to a full quality of life,” he emphasized.
