Doctors in Almaty save woman after 9-story fall

In Almaty, doctors at City Clinical Hospital No. 7 brought back to life a 34-year-old woman who sustained severe injuries after falling from the ninth floor. The patient was brought out of a critical condition thanks to the coordinated efforts of a multidisciplinary team of specialists. On the tenth day, she was discharged for outpatient treatment and subsequent rehabilitation, reports the website infohub.kz.

According to the Almaty Public Health Department, the woman was admitted to the hospital in an emergency with severe multiple trauma. Medics diagnosed a traumatic brain injury, severe chest trauma, multiple rib fractures, pneumothorax and hemothorax, as well as fractures of the pelvic bones, femurs, and humerus. Her condition was assessed as extremely severe: coma and traumatic shock with a high risk of death. While still in the ambulance, the team performed intubation and started anti-shock therapy. Within minutes of arrival at the hospital, she received the full scope of emergency care in the emergency department.

According to the director of City Clinical Hospital No. 7, Nurdos Kadyrbekov, treatment required the involvement of specialists from several fields. "The treatment involved anesthesiologists-resuscitators, traumatologists, neurosurgeons, surgeons, therapists, cardiologists, psychologists, and psychiatrists. All medical care for the patient was provided under the compulsory social health insurance system," said Nurdos Kadyrbekov.

Ramazan Askerov, head of the polytrauma department at City Clinical Hospital No. 7, noted that the woman underwent several operations on her upper and lower limbs, and two days later on her pelvic bones. "At all stages, there were extremely high risks of complications, including thromboembolism and fat embolism. However, thanks to the interdisciplinary approach, teamwork, and competent treatment tactics, we managed to achieve a positive result," the doctor added. On the seventh day, the patient was able to stand, and on the tenth day, she was discharged in satisfactory condition.
