Since the beginning of the year, more than 18,000 e-scooter users have been held accountable for traffic violations in Almaty, reports infohub.kz.
At a briefing at the Regional Communications Service, Timur Nogaibaev, head of the Public Security Department of the Almaty Police Department, spoke about methods for detecting violations among scooter drivers.
According to him, new legislative requirements have been introduced that regulate the use of e-scooters and recognize them as full-fledged vehicles. A number of obligations are provided for those who ride scooters and for kick-sharing companies.
During the preparation phase, active work was carried out with automated systems used to ensure road safety and public order in the city, including the Sergek system. Currently, integration of kick-sharing companies' data with the police database and Sergek is underway, which will allow prompt detection of offenses committed by e-scooter drivers.
Timur Nogaibaev added that currently violations are detected by patrol police, district inspectors, and mobile electric patrols.
