Early in the morning, Almaty residents took to social media to share reports of tremors they felt. Details were provided by the city's Emergency Situations Department, according to infohub.kz.
On social media, Almaty residents described their experiences differently. One Threads user with the handle nindzyamalysh wrote: "Almaty, did I imagine an earthquake? No one in my household felt anything and there's no news about it. Although I clearly heard a rumble and a brief shaking that gradually faded."
Another user, aminowiz, noted: "It's 6:34, in Almaty it felt like something fell, like a meteorite. I thought the neighbors dropped something. But friends in a group chat wrote that they also heard some noise. Such a second-long earthquake can happen, and no alert comes."
Some residents claimed that walls shook from the tremors. The account orazgul.nt shared: "Almaty, at 06:33 there was an earthquake, there was a really powerful strong jolt, the walls shook! We're in Nauryzbay district, a private house, who else felt it? It was like something heavy fell to the ground."
However, the Almaty Emergency Situations Department stated that there was no perceptible shaking in the metropolis. The department cited information from the National Scientific Center for Seismological Observations and Research under the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
They confirmed that today at 06:32 Astana time, a seismic event was registered on the territory of Kazakhstan. "In the city of Almaty, it was not felt. No reports of incidents or inquiries related to the earthquake have been received by the Almaty Emergency Situations Department," the press service said.
