Starting September 1, 2026, Almaty will introduce a separate technical inspection of vehicles for compliance with environmental standards. The check will become mandatory for cars running on gasoline, gas, and diesel fuel when their next scheduled technical inspection comes due, reports the website infohub.kz.
As emphasized by LEZ project coordinator Dulat Maratov, the regular technical inspection and the new environmental check are completely different procedures. While the former assesses the overall technical condition of the vehicle, the latter focuses solely on measuring emissions according to the standard ST RK 1433-2023.
For gasoline and gas vehicles, exhaust toxicity will be checked; for diesel vehicles, smoke opacity. Without passing the eco-test, obtaining a diagnostic card will be impossible.
Car owners do not need to undergo the check ahead of time. If a vehicle passed its technical inspection before September 1, the issued document will remain valid until its expiration. However, when the next inspection date arrives, drivers will have to go to accredited stations equipped with the necessary equipment. A regular technical inspection can be done at any operating point.
At an accredited station, drivers will be able to undergo both procedures simultaneously. The list of such points will be published on the website almaty-parking.kz.
The collected data will also help build an objective database of the ecological state of the vehicle fleet for the low-emission zone LEZ.
